Introduction

As part of a coordinated strategy, personal trainers can contribute to helping you improve your health and lifestyle through a staged and monitored fitness program. Whilst it is important to take any ailment or position into account, we will not to treat you as an infirm, sick or elderly but as an individual. Your equality is an essential part in any form of participation in a training environment. However, your trainer may have to take into consideration special conditions or any limiting factors that your disposition enforces. They will adapt your regime accordingly and do their up most to afford your personal reassurance towards your training. It's particularly important for your trainer to know if you have any conditions for which exercise, or a particular type of exercise, is objective or detrimental.

Seniors

As we grow older there our bodies change. Our hormones, enzymes, and other important biochemical functions, lead to a variety of physiological changes. There is a noted decline in lean muscle mass, bone density, flexibility, oxygen consumption, metabolism, cognitive function, balance, agility, and response mechanism. At the same time body fat increases. Clinical studies carried out by Tufts University, supported by anecdotal evidence prove that resistance training, coupled with aerobic activity supplemented with healthy diets were able dramatically reduce the effects of the aging process. Pre-Natal and Post-Partum Women

A natural and healthy lifestyle is essential for all pre natal women and is paramount to assist in the reduction of birth complications. Unless instructed otherwise by her physician, a woman can exercise up to the eighth month. After the birth of the baby, an exercise program can commence almost immediately as is recommended to reduce any excess body fat gained during pregnancy.

People with HIV/AIDS

People with HIV experience a wasting of lean muscle, a loss of bone density along with reduced strength, endurance and aerobic capacity. A balanced resistance, cardiovascular and nutritional program can inhibit, and in some cases prevent, the deteriorating processes. While there exists no evidence that a fitness program will boost the immune system the enrichment in quality of life is beyond a shadow of a doubt.

There are also similarities with people that are fighting cancer. The physical problems encountered are dependent upon the type of cancer and the stage that it has reached. There are also implications around the relative fitness levels of the individual and whether he or she is undergoing treatments, particularly chemotherapy. In the past cardiac patients were confined to bed and doctors insisted on complete inactivity, however physicians attitudes are changing and it is now common practice to enforce monitored exercise in order to aid recovery. All cardiac rehabilitation programs include exercise regimes designed to strengthen the heart and address cholesterol issues. It has been proven that enforcing these lifestyle alterations can radically reduce the chances of any reoccurrence.

Renal Patients

People with kidney complaints have many difficulties with their metabolism particularly with proteins. Protein is essential for the body to repair or build tissue, particularly muscle. Renal patients are put on low protein diets and therefore suffer muscle wastage. High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol

High blood pressure forces the heart to work harder. The heart needs to pump more to deliver adequate blood and oxygen to supply everyday bodily functions. The direct result is an enlarged heart. The risk of heart attack is increased, as is the possibility of stroke and renal failure. Studies find overweight people who suffer from hypertension are particularly at risk from heart failure and attacks. Cardiovascular exercise can greatly reduce blood pressure levels by increasing the body's oxygen consumption. Regular, sustained aerobic training dramatically lowers heart rate and blood pressure in most people.

Youth and Obesity

Recent psychological experiments undertaken in schools and colleges have highlighted certain aspects and social behaviour patterns in the young that is rapidly proving that our adolescent siblings are prone to the new order or phenomenon of 'fatist'. Obese and overweight children and teens are being increasingly alienated and ostracized by their peers Ongoing research and studies into this are proving this can bring with it some psychological issues or even problems.

Fat camps run during the summer months are becoming more and more popular with attendance levels rocketing. Weight control is a progressive education that can be taught. Our personal trainers are being asked to work with more and more adolescents in order to control their weight. We understand that this is a delicate and sensitive area. Our professionals deal with similar or identical situations on a regular basis, virtually daily. There are some approved methods in approaching this issue with your child. Working with you in a team effort is a proven strategy that is known to help overcome some obstacles.
